The quarterly BizExchange Index of Australian Private Business Values is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to know what businesses are worth. Segmented by industry and organisation size it provides an unprecedented insight into Australia's $trillion hidden market.

BizExchange has been monitoring Australian Private Business Values since March 2006, and publishing the BizExchange Index since September 2006. The September 2012 Quarter Index is available now.

Key findings for the March Quarter 2013

1. The volume of businesses advertised for sale in the March Quarter stayed near its recent record level, while the value of the BizExchange Index has also remained steady.

2. The percentage of businesses with EBIT values between 1 and 2 has remained fairly steady from last quarter during which there was a major change from the preceding quarter when PE ratios between 1 and 2 increased from 35% of listings to 48% of listings.

3. The March Quarter saw some softening in prices, particularly businesses with turnovers of less than $1 million, while prices on larger businesses are noticeably stronger.
