BUYERS’ MARKET STARTING TO EMERGE
At best, prices for private businesses will be relatively stable in coming months according to the March Quarter issue of the BizExchange Index.
“Recent improved consumer sentiment did not translate to higher business values and major uncertainties may be beginning to outweigh positive factors” according to BizExchange Chairman, David Bird. Since our commentary was written the expected resources boom has been downgraded by the proposed “super profits” tax – whatever that means.
If the negative factors begin to prevail, a buyers’ market for private businesses will emerge.
This will be exacerbated on the supply side because we may also be seeing the commencement of increased selling by baby boomer owners of mid market businesses ($5-15 million turnover) as evidenced by increased listing in the March Quarter.
Those owners probably withdrew or held back from the market during the GFC. For some, the time is running out.
