A marketplace, not a broker or adviser

BizExchange publishes listings and passes enquiries between buyers and sellers. We do not act for buyers or sellers, we do not value businesses, and we take no part in any sale. Nothing on this site is financial, legal, tax or valuation advice, and nothing on it is a recommendation to buy or sell a particular business.

Listings

  • Listings are written and supplied by private owners, brokers and franchisors. We check new listings before they go live, but we do not verify the figures, the description, or that the business is as described, unless the listing says so.
  • Some broker listings summarise what the broker has published elsewhere. They name the broker, and their figures are as published by the broker and have not been verified by us.
  • Photos marked "Stock photo" are there for illustration because the seller supplied none. They do not show the business for sale.
  • The asking price is what the seller is asking. It is not a valuation and not a sale price.
  • The "What is my business worth?" calculator works out a range from the asking prices and profits of listings on BizExchange. It is a guide to what similar businesses ask, not a valuation and not a prediction of what a business will sell for.
  • Profit is shown on the basis the seller gives: net profit, EBITDA or owner's benefit. These measure different things, so check which one a listing uses before you compare it with another.
  • The multiple shown on listing cards is the asking price divided by the profit figure in the listing. It is arithmetic, not a valuation, and shows n/a when either figure is missing.
  • A listing can be out of date. A business may be sold or under offer before its listing changes.
  • Map pins show the centre of the business's suburb, or of its region when the seller keeps the suburb confidential. They never show the business's address.

Guides

Our guides explain how buying, selling, valuing and financing a small business usually works in Australia. They are checked against the official sources they cite as at the date shown on each guide, and laws and rules change. They are general information and do not take your circumstances into account. See our editorial policy.

The BizExchange Asking Price Report

The Asking Price Report is built only from listings on BizExchange. It reports asking prices, not sale prices. Every figure is a median shown with its sample size, and any figure based on fewer than 20 listings is withheld. Sale prices in it are reported by sellers and are not verified. Because it covers only BizExchange listings, it may not represent the whole market. See the methodology.

We link to official sources, broker and franchisor websites and other sites. We do not control them and are not responsible for what they say.

Get advice before you act

Before you buy or sell a business, do your own checks and get advice from an accountant and a solicitor, and from a licensed broker or a valuer where that suits your situation.
